Virginia and Charles – once a wedding couple, now a family portrait couple. Here’s their little bundle of joy, dreaming happy thoughts in the big city.

I was searching for their wedding photos on all of our servers but they have long since been archived so no luck. I did find this jem of Virginia getting ready that landed Eric a first place award with the WPJA!

Newborn Session Winners through Destination Maternity / Prenatal Yoga

Welcome sweet baby Emmett! Emmett’s parents signed up for a newborn session after hearing about us through Destination Maternity in Paramus, NJ! Congratulations on your precious little Emmett. He is absolutely adorable! We had such a good time with this family and really felt so connected to them since our own pregnancy and birthing experience was so fresh on our mind. We shot the session at their house in the most unexpected little nook – otherwise known as their doggie Truman’s sleeping spot. Who would have thought.

Now I have to give a little shout out to the wonderful classes available through Valley and Destination Maternity. Brooke and Marlie absolutely love their yoga classes. She took part in the prenatal yoga classes at Destination Maternity as well as the Mom and Baby Yoga at Destination Maternity and the Kraft Center.

We’d also like to give Jane Silane, Brooke’s yoga teacher, a special thank you for all her guidance throughout Brooke’s pregnancy and beyond. She is such a wonderful yoga instructor and advisor! Go take her classes, you won’t be disappointed.

Marlie on our Anniversary Picnic – West Park Winery

Eric and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary! We didn’t want to do anything crazy. We just wanted to spend the day appreciating all the little and big things that we have done together over the past 5 years. This year we are especially grateful for our daughter, the cutest, most smiley, gleeful little girl in the world. We woke up feeling very nostalgic. So we jumped in the car and headed up to West Park Winery for a little picnic on the hilltop where we got married. It was blazing hot, much like our wedding day. We both tried so hard to pretend that this was uber romantic and such an amazing moment. Which it was. But there was no hiding the feeling that you walked into a sauna with a snow suit on. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful day to take a drive with the AC on full blast and recap our wedding highlights. We also spent the day watching Marlie TV – which basically means we sat on the floor watching her every move for hours, never getting bored of her entertainment. She’s a hoot – clapping, waving, saying dada, screeching at the highest octave possible, and she does the wounded soldier crawl now too. Marlie’s about 7.5 months in these shots, loving every minute of life, and making our world super special.

I wanted to post this on father’s day but I just couldn’t wait any more. We did a mini photo shoot on Marlie’s 6 month birthday and here are a few of our favorites. These pictures of Marlie with Eric make me melt!

We had a wonderful photo shoot with two little angels who are turning one.

I just love this photo…. What’s better than remembering your two little monkeys climbing in your couch!

Love those chompers! As the son of a dentist I can appreciate the wonders of a one year olds teeth coming in. Our photo sessions are like play dates. We show up all professional and before you know it we are rolling around on the floor making silly faces and singing songs with your children. Mom called us after the shoot to thank us because these guys took a really long nap after we left. Awesome! This sequence is hilarious!!! BUSTED! While we were capturing shots of her brother she snuck off and got into some mischief.

Aiden’s eyes melt mom and dad’s heart!

It was an absolute joy to photograph this family, we had a really wonderful time.

I must be really funny looking because Aiden was either giggling at me or checking me out like, “who the heck is this guy?”

I wanted to share these adorable images that Eric captured of our 3 month young baby Marlie. For Marlie the world is so fresh and new. Facial expressions, colors, textures, sounds all have her smiling and create an eye opening revelation of wonderment! Discovering bubbles has rocked her world! For us re-discovering the small joys of life through her has been a blessing that I never expected! Oh happy days!

We absolutely adore these photos. This little girl loved her bow and we can’t argue with accessorizing.

This image says to me “Mom and Dad I’ve got a hold on you”. And isn’t that the truth for little girls! How could a parent resist?

If I could draw a picture of what my childhood memories look and feel like, this would be it. Laughter, whimsy, spinning with glee. I am so excited to relive those days through our little girl, Marlie.

Introducing Our New Daughter Marlie Bea!

So where have we been? Oh, just having a baby is all!! Our daughter Marlie Bea Lagstein arrived on November 20, 2009.

It was very surreal bringing a new family member home and realizing that our lives have changed forever. She has filled our home with more love than we could ever have imagined.

We want to thank everyone for your support and outpouring of well wishes. For all the love we have received from friends and family – our hearts are overflowing – and Marlie is soaking it all up.

So what happened? Well, I went into labor at 3:30 am and I was in complete denial. I spent a really long time having contractions all by myself before waking up Eric. By the time I woke him up my contractions were only one minute apart and we had to race to the hospital. Eric was so shocked and in such a slumber he couldn’t remember how to get to the hospital which is only a 5 mile drive. It was a scene for the movies. I was giving him directions in between my contractions and telling him to pass cars and go through red lights. At least we showed up at the hospital laughing. Although he started out a little shaky he quickly got himself together and proved to be the most amazing and supportive husband and labor coach in the world.

I will spare you all of the wonderful details of my labor – I wound up having a c-section. Thank goodness we had such an amazing team of nurses and doctors – I feel I owe my life to them all because they brought our baby into this world safely.

We were in no rush to name her. We spent a few days getting to know her. With 10 names in our pocket, no other name ever came to mind. After about 2 days we knew she was Marlie Bea. Marlie is for my Grandmother Mariel and Bea is for Eric’s Grandmother Beatrice.

After the c-section I had to spend a long time in recovery while Eric was with the baby. The picture above shows the one moment I got to see her before they took her away to check her vitals. Recovery was really tough because all I wanted was to be with her. Eric insisted that they bring her to me. He actually stood up to a line of 5 nurses who were saying that the baby needed to stay under the warmers for another 2 hours before she could come to me. Eric did tons of research before our birth and knew that mom was the best warmer over any stupid machine, he insisted and off he went with her – GO DAD! The photo below is when I really got to meet her. I was in heaven and when I looked up all of our parents had snuck into the room to see this moment. I was so happy to see them all there, all 8 of them and not a dry eye in the house.

Eric took this shot the next morning and it’s one of our favorites. The first of many mornings waking up to these eyes.

Unfortunately when we got home Eric came down with the flu. It was sooooo awful and soooo sad, he had a very high fever and he was banished to “exile island” (a.k.a the guest bedroom upstairs) for 4 full days. It was heartbreaking that he could not be with us in the beginning but he was more sick than he has ever been before. He did not want to pass it on to Marlie. The morning he came back to us Marlie gave him the biggest smile in the world – it was crazy and brought us to tears. She has an amazing connection with Eric. She lights up when he comes in the room, looks at her, talks to her, holds her…

Before we could blink our eyes Marlie was showing us her personality. She is such an expressive little one. She makes little noises all day long (and night too). She stares at you intensely as if she is computing everything that you are. And best of all she has been a smiling fool since day 5.

I’m not going to lie that Maggie is a little sad that she doesn’t get all the attention any more, but she has completely accepted her new rung on the ladder without a fuss. She is so gentle and sweet as can be with Marlie and I’m sure cannot wait until Marlie is big enough to play with her.

And here are two shots from a little creative session we did with Marlie around 2 weeks.

We’ve had a wonderful beginning to parenthood. As we are finding some normalcy in our new lives as a family of three, we realize how blessed we are. Off we go on this new journey. More to come…
